Dominic Thiem defeated former number one Novak Djokovic. The Lower Austrian won against the Serb in three sets 6: 7, 6: 2 and 6: 3 and is now in the Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo in the quarterfinals. It was only the second victory of the Austrian in the seventh duel.
It is the seventh showdown between Austria’s tennis star Dominic Thiem and Serbian Novak Djokovic , the twelve-time major winner. Thiem has won only once against the 30-year-old superstar. In the French Open quarter-finals of the previous year, the Lower Austrians prevailed with 7: 6, 6: 3, 6: 0. Austria’s world ranking seventh in Monte Carlo celebrates a comeback after a five-week break.
