LAUPEN – The traditional bakery-based company Ritz wants to stop its business and dismiss all employees. After examining different variants, the management sees no other way to survive in the market.
Of the measures at the production site in Laupen BE according to a media information of the company in the night on Wednesday, about 65 employees affected. A social plan is in progress. The authorities and the social partners were also informed in advance of the cuts, according to the Communiqué.
Chairman of the Board of Directors and Managing Director, Jürg Reinhard, emphasized to the news agency SDA that he would like to get a clean break in the cessation of business activities. Good solutions – especially among the many long-standing employees and suppliers – are a matter of particular concern to him despite the difficult situation.
The liquidity for a proper procedure for the winding up of the company – for example for the adherence to the contractual notice periods – is secured, he further explained. Reinhard hopes, despite already conducted examinations of a sale and partial liquidations, that fragments of the operation can be rescued in any way.
As the main reason for the measures now taken, the management indicates the extremely tough market environment for such small businesses. The dominating wholesalers and the increased foreign competition, for example from Belgium, Spain and Austria, made it impossible for a company the size of Ritz to survive, said Reinhard. His company can no longer offer its products at market prices with limited production capacities and only partially automated production processes.
