No matter how tempting it is to press the snooze button again, you’d better get up after the first ring. This is what a study by the University of Toronto has already established in 2012. Because who gets up right away, is happier and generally satisfied in life.

Being aware of the decision to get up earlier can greatly enrich your morning routine. If you wake up earlier, you also have more time and do not feel so rushed anymore. Then you can have breakfast and maybe even do some morning exercise. And there is also something peaceful about being awake in front of everyone else.

Of course, that’s not as easy as it sounds. Because, as is the case with old habits, it is very difficult to discard. Therefore, you should set your alarm clock at the beginning only half an hour earlier than usual and go to bed earlier in the evening. Otherwise you lack the necessary motivation for the day due to the lack of sleep.

Do you also belong to the people who first check their e-mails in the morning or look at what they have missed on social media during the night  – and most of the time even before breakfast? Most of the time, you do not notice that you are putting the needs of others above your own.  The fact is, you’re losing much of your morning energy that you’d rather use for yourself.

Before you reach for your smartphone or computer, you should first have breakfast and maybe spend some time with your family. Give your brain and your body time to wake up properly. It is not for nothing that “breakfast like an emperor “.

Take a full hour to fully focus on the most important thing you need to do this day without distraction. Because you have the most energy in the morning and can do so the most.

In some companies there is a so-called “Power Hour “, in which all employees work on their most important task at the same time. This creates a concentrated working atmosphere and a shared feeling. If such a window of opportunity does not officially exist in your company, you should still try to keep it free for an hour to get on with your project.

Nothing is more boring than sitting in the office early in the morning and having to listen to a barren presentation or discussion. Instead of sitting inside a stuffy room inside, you could also suggest to your colleagues to discuss the most important things while walking in the great outdoors.

Experts swear by such meetings while walking . Because activity promotes creative thinking. Some startups in the US have even installed treadmills with built-in stand-up desks in their conference rooms, so employees can not just give their thoughts free rein during a meeting.

Delete the negative

Humans are habit animals and these habits can be good or bad. Many are basically just little time wasters without much benefit. You can watch yourself for a week, paying attention to where you are wasting time or what is draining you and making you unproductive. For example, if a “short” visit to Facebook takes half an hour, you can save a lot of time there.

But you should not start your day with self-criticism and just think about what you did wrong the day before. Find out where your weaknesses are and work on them. Those who start the day happily will sleep well in the evening.
